Worship at Bernie Church of Christ
Our Lord made this statement in John 4:23-24 – “But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the
Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship
in spirit and truth.” Hence, we at the Bernie church of Christ seek to worship God in just this manner…in spirit and in truth. We
do so by trying to restore the New Testament pattern for those who seek to worship God. We believe that the only way to accomplish
that goal is to submit to the authority and pattern of God’s Word.
When you attend the worship services at Bernie you will find the following:
Men leading the congregation in worship.
‘A Cappella’ singing, which means that we sing as a congregation without mechanical instrumental music. In the New Testament the Christians
sang and made melody in their heart to the Lord, Colossians 3:16 and Ephesians 5:19.
Christians participating in the communion of the Lord’s Supper every Sunday following the pattern set in the New Testament in such
scriptures as Acts 20:7. This communion consists of the unleavened bread which represents Christ’s body that was hanged on the cross
and the fruit of the vine which represents the blood that Christ shed to atone for our sins. This was instituted on the night Jesus
was betrayed, Matthew 26:26-28.
